Francie Martin Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This endowed scholarship was established by Betty L. Martin to honor the memory of her daughter, Francie Martin. Francie Martin was born on October 7, 1948. She was a sweet young lady who shared interests in horseback riding and girl scouting as well as other typical activities with her mother. At the young age of 13, while undergoing elective surgery to correct a spine abnormality, she had a reaction to the general anesthesia- Malignant Hyperthermia. Little was known of this hereditary condition in those days and Francie died during the surgery. After the devastating loss, Betty Martin did much toward setting up a a communication network among doctors so that Malignant Hyperthermia is more recognizable and less deadly today.
