University of North Alabama Golf Program Endowment in Honor of Chris Burns and Alex Sloan

This endowed scholarship was established to honor Chris Burns and Alex Sloan. Mr. Burns was a pioneer of the junior golf program in Alabama. He served as head professional at Florence Golf and Country Club for 40 years before retiring in 2001. He was the Alabama PGA Professional of the Year in 1968 for his work with the junior program. He also had a hand in starting and coaching several high school golf programs in the Shoals. Mr. Sloan was a renowned teaching pro at Florence Country Club and Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club. He was also the head golf coach at UNA for many years. Recipients of this scholarship must meet the following criteria: first priority to Alabama residences and 2.5 GPA; second priority to students who are out of state and maintain 2.5 GPA.
