John Michael "Jack" Karnes Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This endowed scholarship was established by the University of North Alabama National Alumni Association to honor the late John Michael "Jack’ Karnes. On graduating from high school in 1996, Jack received the Dwight Collins Memorial Golf Scholarship from SCC and accepted a golf scholarship to the University of North Alabama, where he was later named to the All-Academic Team of the Gulf South Conference with a 3.81 GPa in the College of Business. Jack had two happy years at UNA, enjoying his new surroundings and the new friends he had made. He was an active member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. In September 1998, Jack was en route from Nashville to Shiloh Falls in Tennessee to play a practice round with his teammates when he was tragically killed in an automobile accident. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide continued scholarship support for student athletes whose eligibility has expired but have not yet completed their degree requirements. Former scholarship athletes within 30 hours of graduation with minimum 2.0 GPA are eligible to apply. Recipients are selected by the UNA athletic department.
